France, because of the quality of its network, is one of the biggest consumers of TV programs and other VOD. In a society where every penny counts, more and more French people are asking the question of IPTV.
But in fact, what is this IPTV? are iptv services legal? Why is everyone doing it?

IPTV, Kezako?

Appeared for the first time in 1995 in the United States, it means Internet Protocol Television. It is a system that gives you the opportunity to receive television via internet. This allows you to enjoy your favorite programs on all your screens (Smartphone, PC, tablets, etc …).
To adopt a system of this type, it is better to have a pretty good connection to your home, otherwise you will have screen freeze (s). IPTV requires the purchase of a small Android box or other, which you can connect to all your screens to have access to TV and applications offered by the IPTV provider you choose. There are a multitude of sellers and offers.

Is it paying? legal?

Apart from the purchase of the IPTV box, you can receive the channels in clear in the same way as on a television. The new models already benefit from the integrated IPTV application. For pay channels, you will have to pay the subscription price as you would from a regular internet service provider.
In terms of legality, streaming content is not illegal as long as your provider pays the broadcast fees. There are 2 schools.

I was told it was free!

Yes there are indeed IPTV boxes allowing you to access some 500 channels including some pay (Canal +, BeinSport, etc …) for a pittance per year. This practice is totally illegal and exposes you especially to viruses and especially to sanctions. The risks incurred can be up to 3 years imprisonment and 300 000 € fine. Indeed, watching a program without paying broadcast or copyright fees is considered counterfeiting in the same way as downloading movies illegally (no longer show the T411 platform, see the article on Closing of T411).
However, the number of followers to this practice continues to increase. The main reason being financial when you look at the subscriptions of sports channels for example. Canal + is at € 35 a month, RMC Sport at € 19 at Orange and Bouygues Télécom, the BEIN Sport package is at € 15. Not to mention the other Eurosport, etc … Plus the subscription to the TV service of the internet provider this can represent a saving of up to a hundred euros monthly. Because the IPTV only requires an internet connection, no TV option or decoder, so no rental of it.

The surveillance of the authorities

In France, the phenomenon is not yet widespread. But this does not prevent the HADOPI (High Authority for the Dissemination of Works and Protection of Rights on the Internet) to monitor this new practice very closely before it becomes too large.

Are iptv services legal? and Recognize the illegality

These illegal IPTV boxes are for the most part bought on Chinese sites, at ridiculous prices (about 30 € to 60 €). You must then contact the seller. This one gives you a code and gives you access to all the paid channels, free of charge. This code is mostly valid for 1 year and also costs about thirty euros.
For their part, sellers of this type of equipment wash their hands and feel they do nothing wrong. According to them, they do not provide any hacker hardware but would just facilitate access to internet resources. The border being very subtle …
Some arrests have already been made in Europe, in order to dismantle a network of resellers …

So … In which cases are iptv services legal?

If you want to opt for this IPTV system, it is better to choose the legal option with a SmartTV Samsung or LG for example (TV including the service, count about 400 € for a model 32 inches). Or keep your current TV and buy an IPTV box like SFR OTT or other Android box / Apple TV. You will not necessarily save money but you do not risk financial penalties or worse.
This material will be particularly appreciated by the large families who will probably have several screens in their home. Everyone wishing to watch his program, it will be possible according to offers, to watch on various media, programs simultaneously. If you have teenagers and do not want a crisis, this system will also offer better audio and visual quality. No freeze or lag during the broadcast. Indeed, the use of the bandwidth will be optimized. Instead of being distributed as a multiple stream, each channel will have its own distribution.
This system will be

Before going into the subject in depth, let’s first define IPTV and IPTV subscription how it works.

What is IPTV?

IPTV, Internet Protocol Television, is a system through which television services are distributed over a packet-switched network using the Internet protocol suite, such as a local area network or the Internet, instead of the Internet Protocol. be transmitted via conventional terrestrial, satellite and cable television formats.

What does IPTV provide in terms of features?

Live television, with or without interactivity linked to the current television show.

Video on demand (VOD): Browse a catalog of videos not related to TV programming.

Difference between IPTV and satellite TV?

Cable TV and satellite TV send hundreds of channels to a decoder. IPTV only sends the requested broadcasts, which saves bandwidth for the Internet.

The main difference I like most is that in IPTV, you can pause live programs that you can not use in cable or satellite TV.

You will be able to select playback times for your content by creating your own personal broadcast channel. This allows you to organize your content so that you can sequence different videos in the order you prefer.

You can also play this content nonstop if you wish. You will never be able to do that with cable or satellite.

Some features on IPTV

• Time difference: we can watch programs for the last 7 days and save them automatically.

• Live TV Controller: Rewind, pause and play even when watching a live TV show.

• Video on Demand (VOD): We can rewind, fast forward, pause and play the latest blockbuster movies to suit our needs. It’s like watching a movie on a DVD player.

IPTV presents some obstacles, such as the loss of signal due to heavy rain and storms, the regulation of some countries.

IPTV is fundamentally the evolution of traditional broadcasting modes such as cable or satellite television. IPTV is the future of television.

IPTV is the distribution of television services over the Internet as opposed to traditional cable or satellite lines and even though IPTV has been around since 1995, it has not been widely used in recent years.

As the use of high-speed Internet increases, IPTV becomes a much more viable alternative to standard television.

We argue that IPTV is the future of television for several reasons.

Internet price continues to fall

As the price of the Internet drops and more and more people around the world access high-speed Internet. IPTV will continue to grow in popularity.

Internet access has been the biggest obstacle to the success of IPTV, but as providers are driving down prices and some municipalities are starting to offer completely free Internet service and people are turning to the Internet for their TV content.

Interestingly, the prices of Internet access in the United States are among the highest in the world.

A recent report called Cost of Connectivity states that you can buy a connection at 500 Mbps, more than 50 times the US average, about $ 300. It is much higher than in a place like Amsterdam where this high speed connection would only cost you $ 86.

IPTV providers are generally cheap

Most providers of IPTV subscriptions offer extremely affordable options for their content. More IPTV offers hundreds of channels, movies and TV shows that can be viewed at any time. This allows viewers to access all kinds of content exactly when they want it, rather than being stuck in time when their favorite TV show airs.

The main advantages of IPTV:

Cost effective: Using your existing IP network, TVs, computers and AV displays without the need for a separate satellite / air signal system in the building or campus significantly reduces costs while offering a high return on investment potential.

• Flexible and scalable:

Enterprise IPTV technology enables the addition of new TV and video sources and users wherever there is a network connection without image degradation. It is therefore faster and less expensive to expand a system.

• Rapid Deployment:

scalability and manageability allows the rapid deployment of fresh organizational TV, video and broadband services in reaction to requirements and possibilities.

• Save expensive Internet bandwidth:

multicast technology makes better use of LAN bandwidth by broadcasting each channel once on the network, regardless of the number of end viewers, rather than through multiple streams through your Internet gateway.

• Increased security:

all streaming Internet access can be blocked at the firewall for added security and regulatory compliance.

• Focus on the user experience:

frees audiovisual experts from unmarked cabling issues to focus on key competencies: the user experience from source to display, e.g. content generation, video conferencing dynamic display, design of display systems for meeting rooms or corporate studios.

• Lower management costs:

places computer-controlled audiovisual distribution for lower management costs and more efficient network planning.
